A Spring Day in NYC

March 30, 2018

Although there’s really no bad time to visit the Big Apple, spring might well be our favourite season. As the city emerges from its winter chill, a range of lively events, pop ups and seasonal activities blossom. Here’s how to spend a spring day in NYC.

While away the morning at the Orchid Show at NY Botanical Gardens, an annual rainbow-hued floral extravaganza running until 22 April. Although usually found in tropical climates, more than 1500 rare orchids, curated by florist Daniel Ost, are lovingly displayed in a 90-foot domed greenhouse. Phone cameras at the ready: this one is blooming marvellous.

Head back to Manhattan for lunch at seasonal sip n' sup spot The Pavilion. Due to re-open in April, (keep peepers peeled for exact date) this leafy outdoor terrace serves a market-fresh menu of locally sourced produce and is a top choice on balmy spring days. Tuck into treats like cheese and tomato tart with lavender seed and dandelion salad or beef carpaccio with baby arugula.

Walk off lunch with a leisurely amble through neighbouring Union Square Park, a bustling open space, which frequently hosts events and festivals. From here, you're only a few blocks from mega home emporium ABC Carpet – should you be mid-spring clean at home, this is your six-storey one-stop for original interior wares. Expect to lose a few hours...

Post retail, hop along to Gramercy Tavern for dinner; the seasonally changing menu stars spring treats like baked lumache pasta with aged cheddar and soy glazed monkfish with bok choy. Afterwards, it’s back to the Pen for a nightcap on Salon de Ning's viewy terrace to soak up the refined-but-hip atmos and excellent cocktails. Cin cin!
