With its floor-to-ceiling windows, tiled wooden ceilings, contemporary marble bar and creative all-day menu, Rockwell eatery Hatch 22 could well be a quintessential New York hotspot straight off the Sex and the City set. And seeing as this is the latest venture from celeb siblings Erwan and Solenn Heussaff (behind other local go-tos Hungry Hound and Niner Ichi Nawa, its impeccable looks are no surprise. But while the former is a handsome gastropub and the other a craft cocktail bar, Hatch is dedicated to the first (and most important) meal of the day, with not only some of the city’s most hard-to-find single origin coffee beans, but also arguably the best breakfast, brunch, and bread basket in town.
To that end, the contemporary cafe dishes up Western-inspired plates like the NYOB (not your ordinary benedict) with sous vide eggs and Portobello mushroom on fresh-baked muffin, ‘South of the Border’ chorizo and chipotle cheddar scramble, and blueberry ricotta pancakes with toasted almonds, while Filipino-style favourites include Tapsilog and the ‘Trio of Longaniza’ with three kinds of local sausage with garlic rice and crunchy egg. Alternatively, opt for one of the three ultra-indulgent baskets, like the ‘basket 2’ which includes wild sourdough, rustic English muffin, bacon focaccia, French baguette and ‘muffin top’ with cinnamon honey butter, spiked fragrant pear jelly, and pineapple cheese pimiento as spreads. Carb fix, sorted!
