Though women of the Philippines have long been partial to glamorous and luxurious accessories, including and especially those made from the region’s abundant exotic animal skins, local dandies have often been left by the wayside in the homegrown style stakes. It was this gap in the market coupled with a growing appetite for men’s high fashion in capital Manila that led designer Raul Francisco to launch his male-centric, luxury accessories line, Eterno, at the tail end of 2013. With a slew of women’s retail offerings already under his and wife Joanna’s collective belt – namely Tint, Carbon and Joanna Preysler boutiques – Francisco was perfectly poised to launch a male offshoot – and what a stellar move it has thus far proved.
In an elegant, wood-panelled Greenbelt 3 Mall shop space, Francisco’s full range of belts, wallets, portfolios, utility cases, duffels, and totes can be found sitting smartly on the suspended grey velvet shelving. Impeccably finished pieces are crafted from local and imported skins and leathers spanning crocodile, python, stingray and ostrich, and though many pieces are available in bold hues like cobalt, forest green, turquoise and orange, we’re especially fond of the black on black hornback crocodile utility case featuring calfskin lining and double zip detail. Mod, manly and 100% Manilan.
