Christmas Concert at the Peninsula
Back in 1979, it was a fateful storm that led Conchita Sunicao, chairperson of the Manila Metropolitan Theatre, to beg Peninsula Manila’s then GM Felix Bieger to allow a scheduled outdoor performance by the Manila Symphony Orchestra to go ahead inside the hotel lobby instead. What started as a benevolent gesture soon became a beloved and iconic part of both the Peninsula’s and the city’s holiday calendars, and in 2013, some 30 years after the first official performance was staged in 1982, the Christmas Concert at the Peninsula celebrates its 3-decade milestone with yet another philanthropic bent.
As always, the Peninsula has assembled a stellar cast of high profile musical guests to wow the audience, including Lani Misalucha, the Philippines’ premiere soprano Rachelle Gerodias, Jose Mari Chan, the Philippine Madrigal Singers, and the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra once again led by one of Europe’s finest conductors, Maestro Ruggero Barbieri. Along with the joyous resounding of classic Christmas carols, the air will be filled with the spirit of giving, with 25% of food and beverage proceeds going to the Hope for the Philippines fundraising program and the homeless survivors of super typhoon Haiyan. Hymning and helping – fab!
