A simple t-shirt concept inspired by the souvenir stores of San Francisco, Manila’s original Bleach Catastrophe store was launched seven years ago and quickly became a local favourite for its funky printed shirts and breezy t-shirt dresses – but seven years is a lifetime in the fashion world, and it’s unsurprising that after so long in the business Villamiel began to feel uninspired with the limited offering. Rather than shutter completely, Villamiel rebranded her concept first with the launch of the Bleach Home line, and then with a complete overhaul of the store (now simply called Bleach) late last year, now re-open and placing an emphasis on the vibrant lifestyle and homeware offering.
Fans will still find her in Bleach’s original Greenbelt location, but the revamped space boasts an urban rustic vibe with wood flooring, reclaimed wood shelving, distressed concrete and tiled walls. With all Philippine-made, themed collections like ‘love from Paris’ and ‘curious polka’ (think playful ‘oui’ printed cushions and polka-dotted totes), the inventory includes standout kitchenware from tea towels, aprons and serving trays, and quirky home curios from storage pouches to seat cushions. Devotees of the former iteration of Bleach will be glad to know that the signature line of comfort-casual tees is still on the shelves. Bigger, better, Bleach 2.0!
