The end is nigh, and what better choice for your final meal (of 2015, of course!) than a flip-fresh feast at one of Manila’s finest Nippon sup spots? Like the Tokyo wet market it is named after, Tsukiji is all about the finest fishy morsels, serving some of Manila’s best sushi and sashimi in a traditional omakase counter setting.
Helmed by Japanese chef Toshiro Okajima, the traditional, wood-lined eatelier is all about keeping things simple. Nab a prime perch and watch on as the blade-wielding kitchen ninjas slice and dice glossy stripes of salmon, fatty tuna and hamachi, which are presented with just a dab of soy or carefully moulded around Koshihikari rice.
Rather a meatier ending to your year? Then totter through to one of the smokeless grill tables of the Yakiniku room for DIY Wagyu wonders, or snag a spot by the teppanyaki plate for feasting with a side of sharp spatula skills.
And it should go without saying that you’ll find no shortage of sake and Champagne to pair with your picks, and raise a glass when the clock strikes. How’s that for a happy ending?!
