It’s rare for a successful, seasoned Creative Director to change course mid-career, but that’s exactly what noted Filipino couturier Tippi Ocampo did, choosing to chase a lifelong dream of becoming a fashion designer before it was too late. And it would seem that success was always in the cards for her, as not long after that her haute couture pieces went on to win her not only a covetable spot as a Philippine representative in the prestigious Concours International des Jeunes Createurs de Mode in 1999, kickstarting her renown as a local fashion figure, but also a devoted local following for her beautiful bridalwear and Filipiniana-inspired designs.
A former board member and still a staunch supporter of the Fashion Design Council of the Philippines, Ocampo isn’t too busy to create a number of bespoke bridal pieces a year – but you’ll need to book well ahead to secure a custom appointment with the designer. Only a lucky handful of brides-to-be have beheld her iconic drawing room (a vision with Versailles-style gilt chairs and distressed black chandelier), which hides a manifold delight of sheer fabrics, organza veils, and sweetheart necklines, oh my! Can you hear the church bells ring?
