Poetry & Prose

Manila, with myriad sweet spots like Paul, Gourmandise and Park Avenue Desserts, certainly isn’t a stranger to French pastries and confections – so it’s no surprise that the recently opened Poetry & Prose has been an early smash hit. Save a distinguishing vibrant mural by revered local artist Gina Bocar, the Parisian patisserie from restaurateur Jojo Paje is an elegant and understated vision in greige, with white striated marble floors and walls adorned with famous, inspirational quotes by the likes of Julia Child and George Bernard Shaw.

However, Paje sets Poetry & Prose apart from the pack with an elevated offering including high tea and all-day breakfast – diners can enjoy bistro bites like classic Eggs Benedict, cheese and bacon-stuffed Quiche Lorraine, and Niçoise, Lyonnaise and Marius salads, plus finger sandwiches made with fresh-baked breads. Sweet tooths fret not, as there’s a seemingly endless list of treats like buttercream and ganache-filled macarons (with flavours from salted caramel to passion fruit), millefeuilles, éclairs, nutty pralines, layered choux crème religieuse and decadent sponge cakes to sate the sugar quota. Finally, choose from select craft tea blends from Harvey & Sons to pair. Delicieux!
