What’s better than a fab restaurant? One with a cool bar attached. Going together like a horse and carriage – or a Kanye and Kardashian – Hooch, aka Lulu + Hooch, is one such stellar pairing. This hip bar, tucked away in Manila’s Salcedo Village, works in tandem with adjoining casual fine-diner Lulu next door, headed up by chef Tom Hines (think top-notch steaks and locally sourced, sustainable seafood and veg). We especially love the bar, which transforms into a buzzing, happening place come nightfall thanks to its spiffy British bartender, expat-meets-glam-local ‘in’ crowd, and seriously quaffable drinks list.

‘Sometimes the old way is the best way’ says the team, who bring you a mix of classic cocktails from Mint Juleps to Dark and Stormys and Rum Swizzles, as well as more modish tipples. Wine, draft beer and beer cocktails are also up for pouring; take one Margarita, just add beer, and you have the Lagerita!

The name Lulu is a carryover from the former Rockwell restaurant of the same name, while Hooch is a boozy term hailing from the Prohibition era. Expect glassy floor-to-ceiling walls in this alluring architectural space, which includes a sultry bar, convivial Chesterfield sofas and airy outside seating. If tipples in food cans are your idea of hip (milk bottles are so last year), then this couple of charmers will have you pulling up a velvety bar stool pronto… Tagay!
