Big Bad Wolf

Clandestine hipster hangout Big Bad Wolf used to occupy such a tucked-away location that only Manila’s savviest fun-seekers could hunt it down. However, the cub is now officially out of the bag: the beloved, always-packed gastro-bar has moved to bigger and easier-to-spot digs in the buzzy Burgos Circle. Gladly, the cosy, artsy vibe – courtesy of mismatched wooden furniture, homey floral sofas, modern artworks and myriad curiosities – has been maintained in the new space, as has their collection of board games and schedule of film screenings and live DJ sets.

While the location has been given a much-needed upgrade, so too has the comfort food menu. Using mostly locally sourced ingredients the kitchen breathes new life into the selection, mixing old favourites (such as the popular grilled corn with a spicy salt and basil butter) with new creations like the 12-hour-roasted garlic chicken with potato gratin, and the squid ink pasta with generous lashings of shrimp, mussels and clams. And, as with any self-respecting hipster haunt, there’s a smashing selection of local craft brews, including Katipunan Craft Ales and the Czech-style Pivo Praha. No amount of huffing and puffing will blow this hip house down.
