As far as mass fashion retailer success stories go, Zara’s is probably the one most familiar to Generations X and Y – founded in Arteixo, Spain in 1974, the company this year celebrates its 40th birthday with more than 1,800 stores in 88 countries, and a name instantly and globally recognised for consistently delivering the best in fast fashion. Originally focused specifically on womenswear, Zara has since grown to include menswear, childrenswear, and most recently, the launch of homeware sister store Zara Home. The Spanish fashion group Inditex has turned the brand’s deft hand from clothing to interiors, and the result is stunning home décor collections at purse-friendly prices – and with the September opening of a Shanghai branch marking the brand’s 16th mainland China presence, it was about time that ZH opened a store in Hong Kong.
Launched in October in a 7,500 sq ft Harbour City shop, the spacious store carries a lovely collection spanning the bedroom (with finds from quilts and linens to occasional furniture like methacrylate side tables and bamboo stools) and the bathroom (towels and shower curtains), as well as the dining (tableware) and living (frames, vases, rugs and cushions) rooms. Accessories like lounge jazz compilations, cute kids’ wallpaper, silk hangers and scented wardrobe satchels add the finishing touch, and altogether ZH gives the city’s homemakers a stylish, savvy, one-stop nest furnishing shop!
