Ola Hong Kong! The Peruvians have landed and the buzz is deafening. 2011 saw the arrival of Peru’s Astrid Y Gaston on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list, and ever since interest in Peruvian food and ingredients has rocketed worldwide. Step forward then Chicha, Hong Kong’s latest Noho hotspot, with a fresh, zesty menu bursting with new flavours for jaded palates.

To start the ball rolling, take your pick of an extensive Pisco-based cocktail list, with the traditional Pisco Sour being the obvious default choice, then get acquainted with some of Peru’s best known dishes, like tangy ceviches, whipped potato causas, succulent grilled anticuchos, meats and tacos, plus larger share plates of suckling pig and the delicious paella-esque seafood dish Marisco Jugoso.

An inviting fit-out of pale wood and black leather furniture, tomato red walls and palm trees gives the illusion you’ve stepped into a relaxed neighbourhood diner in Lima, the split-level bar and dining areas give the option of communal tables or high stools, while counter seating at the semi-open kitchen offers front row seats to the colourful show.

And while you won’t find guinea pig (cuy chactado) on the menu or alpaca for that matter, you can content yourself that you’re trending front and centre with the world’s most talked about cuisine.
