From Mott 32 and Man Mo to patio prettikin Duddell’s, Hong Kong’s modern twist on the traditional yum cha has been bubbling away like a good bird’s nest soup for some years now. But as any carb-crazed dim sum devotee will tell you, there’s always room for one more steamy, sticky, delicious little parcel of joy...
Tycoon Tann, a smartly outfitted resto-bar in Central, might have come to the contempo Sino party a little late but he’s making up for his tardiness with on-point, ingredient-driven cuisine and a delectable selection of fusion sips.
Behind a pair of handsome glass doors you’ll find the ground-floor Mod Bar, a dark and dapper nook of raised granite-top tables, chandeliers and a long wall of dark medicine cabinets.
Snag a stool for a quick signature tipple – maybe a Yum Cha (homemade cinnamon gin, lemongrass and fruit tea) or a Tycoonin (Chinese wine with cranberry juice and dried plum) – before you ascend the stairs for more a satiating affair.
The 35-seat diner’s design does away with the lavishness of the lower level, keeping things clean and classic. The fancy factor has been channelled into the food with dainty and decadent plates like Peking duck with foie gras mousse; braised abalone in supreme oyster sauce; and sautéed lobster with black truffles and crispy rice toast. What to pair with your pickings? Sixteen different types of Chinese tea, that’s what. Tann-tastic!
