Hong Kong Tennis Open
Tighten your racquet strings, wring out those sweat bands and ensure your whites are freshly starched; tennis’ top female players are back in town.
Fresh from 2015’s Grand Slam series, 40+ primo pros will hold court at Victoria Park Tennis Stadium for the second annual Hong Kong Tennis Open, one of the biggest sporting events to hit the Fragrant Harbour this year.
Battling it out for the not-to-be-sniffed-at US$250,000 prize money are some of the biggest names in the women’s game. Former world number one and veritable force to be reckoned with Venus Williams heads the stellar lineup, which also includes last year’s victor, German Sabine Lisicki; Canadian Eugenie Bouchard, who was named WTA Newcomer of the Year in 2013; and this summer’s Wimbledon finalist Garbine Muguruza, who was narrowly defeated at the All England Lawns Tennis Club by the other Williams sister and is currently ranked ninth in singles and twelfth in doubles.
Of course, the action extends off-court to the Tournament Village, home to a smorgasbord of food and drink options, from dim sum to artisanal ice pops. It will also play host to autograph signing sessions with the stars, a big-screen TV so that you can follow every nail-biting moment of on-court happenings, and interactive activities to test your own tennis skills. Ace!
