Wine Time!

April 20, 2015
Sotheby’s Wine

Imbibers across Hong Kong and China have certainly developed a taste for top drops over the past decade. So much so, in fact, that the Fragrant Harbour is now the globe’s largest and most rapidly growing fine wine market. Little surprise, then, that when savvy multinational auction house Sotheby’s last year opted to pop the cork on its first Asian wine store, it chose to do so at Admiralty’s One Pacific Place.

Sotheby’s has been auctioning Richebourgs and Rothschilds in Hong Kong since 2009, but the bijou eastern outpost is just their second bricks and mortar locale in the world after their New York flagship. Simply outfitted with a dark slat wood stand and a trio of top-shelf thermo-controlled cabinets, the cellar counter has access to some 400+ impeccable varietals, ranging from five- and six-figure investment-grade Bordeauxs to easy-drinking New World pinot noirs – with price points considerably easier to swallow. Whether you are a seasoned Premier Cru connoisseur or a novice that can’t tell a merlot from a malbec, an expert sommelier is always on-hand to offer advice on everything from selection and storage to preparation and food pairings. And, for those that prefer to try before they buy big, almost all of the vintages can be bought by the bottle as well as by the case. Cheers to that!
