Regulars at Bali’s seaside Potato Head Beach Club in Seminyak will be rubbing their hands together with glee. The rave-success Jakarta-based hospitality outfit and long-time Singa LUXE favorite has finally arrived in Hong Kong, in hip-to-the-max ‘hood Sai Ying Pun, no less.
Potato Head is famous for combining bars, restaurants and infinity pools with pizzazz, perhaps throwing in a cocktail-toting rooftop sip spot for good measure. Comfort meets style in its debut Hong Kong offering, a creative medley of spaces that includes a minimalist coffee and pastry counter, a small shop of comfortable curated home wares, and a casual communal beach-vibe lounge for all-day drinking and dining. It also hosts the first branch of formal Indonesian resto Kaum (aka Clan or Tribe), which serves authentic, traditional dishes from across the archipelago drawing on little-known indigenous ingredients. There’s even a discreet audiophile listening zone if you just want to chill out.
Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto is behind Potato Head Hong Kong, flush from dreaming up a stunning forest of lights installation for COS fashion store in an old theater at April’s Milan Furniture Fair. As well as designing some of Asia’s most radical residential buildings, he also wowed London audiences back in 2013 with his light-as-air Serpentine Pavilion.
Potato Head is all about creating charming, relaxing experiences and lasting memories through its inspiring venues, so Fujimoto’s the perfect fit. Let the good times roll…
