Joy Art Club
Make a New Year’s resolution you will want to keep this year by joining Joy Art Club, an indie non-profit gallery where you can invest in contemporary pieces directly from the artists. Or, if you’d rather let your creative juices flow, sign up for one of the weekly workshops to create your very own masterpieces – who knows, you might just be the next Hockney?
Established in 2006 by Hong Kong-born and bred painter and sculptor Winnie Davies with the aim of providing practicing talents a welcoming environment in which to hone their craft, the space also serves as her studio. She quickly realised that there was an appetite for affordable, locally produced oeuvres and thus invited homegrown artists to exhibit their work for private collectors to purchase – without expensive gallery commissions.
And that’s only the half of it. Budding Bacon’s can put paintbrush to canvas at one of the several Saturday sessions, which embrace amateurs and aficionados alike. From lessons for the little monsters, to tuition on how to arrange your portfolio, traditional Chinese calligraphy, oil painting and the perennially popular life drawing, you’ll find a class that caters to not only your ability, but your artistic aspirations too. What joy!
Joy Art Club will participate in Fotanian Open Studios 2016 on 23rd, 24th, 30th and 31st Jan 2016.
