Tate

April 17, 2017

No, not the Brit art gall, silly, but an exclusive 30-seat restaurant that’s upping the food ante in Hong Kong. If you love plating and painting, then make feminine one-Mich-starred, dining room and bar Tate your gourmet go-to – you’ll find edible canvases which are fabulously arty!

Started by graphic designer and lauded chef Vicky Lau in 2012, Tate recently took over a new glam-bam, two-storey space on Sheung Wan’s Hollywood Road, waving goodbye to its original digs on Soho’s Elgin Street. By JJA/Bespoke Architecture, it’s ultra-pretty with poised pink chairs, dove-grey banquettes, blush-nude walls and pale glossy floors. Linear pendant lights and brushed gold add chic, with zen-sleek tableware and delicate greenery. The elegant 12-seat private dining room boasts a custom table and beguiling neighbourhood views, or request the smaller chef’s table.

Cuisine combines Asian and French, with Edible Stories taking you on a visual and gastronomic adventure. Innovative, sustainable tasting menus celebrate the seasons, with curated wine lists. Chef Vicky whips up two eight-chapter prix-fixe menus, All The Odes, a homage to specific, timeless ingredients, with vegetarian options.

Exclusively for April, Taste of the Precious is a tea harvest-inspired degustation. Embracing eight courses, the botanically-blessed feast kicks off with apple green tea kombucha with canapes and includes pan-fried Hokkaido scallop with green tea buttermilk and celeriac, plus black sesame ice cream with mochi and green tea foam.
