Hong Kong Book Fair
In need of a good read this summer? Well a-fiction-ados adjust your bifocals and prepare to get lost in a land of literature – perhaps literally – because the annual Hong Kong Book Fair (read: the biggest of its type in Greater China) is set to once again return to the epic HK Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai.
The last incarnation of the storied spectacular saw more than a million visitors over seven days and this year’s 26th edition promises to be bigger yet. 580+ publishers and exhibitors will present the latest digital and paperback page-turners, plus coffee-table tomes, true crime and political thrillers, kid’s books and cult comics.
In addition to the abundance of new titles (for which you should check out the Latest Release Presentation) the fair also presents an opus of cultural events. Fiction fans and philosophers can skip to the readings and signing sessions featuring such illustrious international authors as Ben Okri, Alain de Botton and Simon Sebag Montefiore. Or if you’d rather focus on improving your own scribings, there are workshops where budding novelists can get top tips from industry professionals.
Those new to the world of words also haven’t been overlooked with children's stage performances and storytelling hours, plus endless intimate events in the city’s stores, coffee shops and educational institutions. Hit the books!
