Private diners abound in food-centric Hong Kong, with discriminating gourmets seeking more intimate experiences. Here are our top picks…

Ethno adventurer Eat Ethio offers hearty Ethiopian food at twice-monthly, 10-seat private supper clubs. Stylish chef Helina Tesega updates trad family recipes with multi-course tasting menu dishes such as slow-cooked chicken, spicy red lentils and injera bread in her convivial home. Great coffee and Afro beats.

Share food, wine and good company at elegant prettykin Ta Pantry, on Wan Chai’s hip Star Street. The space feels like a chic apartment, with one private dining room seating 20-25. Passionate HK-born chef Esther Sham serves creative French cuisine from the open kitchen.

Sheung Wan Nippon slicker Wagyu Kaiseki Den (by the Rozan guys) bagged a Michelin star for its high-end kaiseki. The nine-course tasting menu spans super-fine sushi, sashimi, Wagyu beef and sea urchin truffle rice, with wine and sake, served at an intimate private table.

Book the four-course set lunch (32 seats) or enjoy an exclusive-hire five-course set-dinner menu for 10+, then peruse global art.

For truly private dining, eat in Italian chef Andrea Oschetti’s own charming southside loft home at Cuore, where he draws on his Milanese grandma’s recipes. Four healthy seasonal courses include dishes such as homemade ravioli or swordfish carpaccio, and exclusive bookings (10-40) mean you’ll have the place to yourself. How’s that for exclusive?!
