Eclectic Cool

Sheung Wan’s up-and-coming PoHo (Po Hing Fong) area just keeps getting, well, cooler, especially now that colourful design and lifestyle store Eclectic Cool has joined the likes of Po’s Atelier  and Café Deadend on the block.

Born originally as a blog by Australian expat Joanne Pereira, the concept soon spread to a brick and mortar showroom locale in Ap Lei Chau in late 2012, quickly to be followed by a Po Hing Fong boutique simply bursting with the quirky, contemporary-meets-vintage-inspired aesthetic for which Pereira is already becoming well known.

Though the showroom boasts an impressive 1,000 sq ft, the boutique is slightly more cosy, meaning the diverse range is presented as a vibrant, piled-high overload of colours, textures, patterns and functions. In the mix are sophisticated sculptural bowls and candlesticks by Copenhagen’s By Lassen, Henry Doyen’s richly-hued glassware, hand-woven rugs by Armadillo & Co, contemporary furniture from British label Another Country, adorable Rifle Paper Co stationery, and even personalised silver necklaces by Melbourne-based jeweller Edenborough Evans.

Pieces from Eclectic Cool’s own eponymous Home and Vintage lines can also be seen front and centre, with Moroccan leather ottomans and signature furniture, and lovingly restored, one-off items collected the world over typifying each collection respectively. Add in art, books, lighting and soft furnishings, and the result is one cool customer.
