The Crafties

The season of gifting is upon us, with Christmas now but weeks away – and while failsafe but fabulous options include the hottest new tech accessories  and luxurious new designer pieces, there’s an even more foolproof idea to gift the ‘person who has everything’ in your life: something handmade and from the heart. That’s where Sheung Wan’s newest creative and coworking space The Crafties comes in handy, opened earlier this year and devoted to bringing Hong Kong a unique craft-making experience, from knitting to screen-printing, from soap-making to stamp carving.

Aiming to provide a fun, creative workplace for Hong Kong’s DIY-inclined, The Crafties offers regular workshops in what it calls ‘Crafties Campus’, including classes where you can learn to make jewellery, master crochet, even handcraft leather into small accessories like pouches and card holders. If you already happen to be proficient with skills like sewing, beading, dye-cutting and 3D printing, but simply don’t have the equipment at home, you can also drop by their studio to use the various machinery on hand.

And in case the sweater you knit didn’t turn out exactly as planned, the ‘Crafties Souk’ has a curated collection of craft wares from local artisans, like Casa dei Gatti’s merino wool scarves, To Whit To Whooo’s adorable baby bibs and boots, and scrapbooking must-haves from Mei Li Paperie. One-stop craft shop!
