Chinese New Year in Hong Kong

February 01, 2018

If you’re in Hong Kong during the Lunar New Year you won’t be disappointed – the city embraces The Year of the Dog with live music, a lavish street parade and feasting aplenty.

While braving the crowds might not be for the faint-hearted, the epic Cathay Pacific-sponsored Night Parade in Tsim Sha Tsui is arguably one of the best ways to get into the festive spirit. The grand, colourful procession of floats, lion dancers and live bands can be watched roadside, but try if you can to reserve a ticketed seat from the Star Ferry pier – you’ll thank us later.

While many of Hong Kong’s traditional, family-run restaurants close for the holiday, festive feasting awaits at Mott 32. The decadent, dim-lit Joyce Wang-designed Sino den is serving a special New Year tasting menu of modern, Canto-inflected dishes during the 14-day new year period. Prepare to leave the diet at the door; resistance to the succulent roasted Iberico pork and Peking duck is futile.
