J.Crew has long been a staple for many a preppy-chic American, so when the New York label first landed in Hong Kong with only a limited range stocked exclusively at Lane Crawford department stores, the city’s clamouring stylistas not-so-subtly demanded more. Realising they were on to a good thing, the powers that be saw fit to launch not one, but two Asian flagships Fragrant Harbourside (one for men, one for women), and so in a flurry of blond wood panelling, whitewashed walls, Persian-style rugs, and droves of instagramming fashion bloggers, J.Crew launched in Hong Kong.
Ladies should head to the 3,250 sq ft womenswear store in the IFC mall to find classic designs like embroidered scallop dresses, striped nautical tees, navy blue Bermuda shorts in Italian linen, and bold jewellery dominating the racks, plus limited-edition In Good Company collaboration pieces, Birkenstock sandals and sunglasses from A.R. Trapp. Meanwhile, the On Lan Street boutique caters especially to the fellas, with three storeys of men-centric style including Indian cotton plaid shirts and chambray sideline pants from the brand’s own line alongside the complete collection of Ludlow Shop suits, plus more team-up designs from Vans sneakers to Alfred Sargent cap toe oxfords. Happy now, Hong Kong?
