Just last month the 2017 edition of The Michelin Guide to Hong Kong was published, and alongside stalwarts such as Bo Innovation and Tim Ho Wan, there are a handful of exciting new entries. Here are our top gourmet picks to make it onto the list – napkins out!
Tickling our taste buds is one-starred Spring Moon, The Peninsula’s celebrated Cantonese restaurant, which has a culinary heritage stretching back to 1928. The art deco interiors are divine, and the dishes, such as roast Peking duck, delicious. Lest we forget, there’s a fabulous tea bar too.
Sleek, Japanese zen-den Kashiwaya nabs two stars just a year after launching; chef Hideaki Matsuo obviously knows his kaiseki. It’s the first overseas branch of Osaka’s three-star Kashiwaya.
Another Japanese culinary genius, chef Hideaki Sato helms Ta Vie in Central, a Nippon-Gallic fusion feast drawing on quality local produce – it jumps from one star to two this year. And proving Japanese is hot in Hong Kong right now, Tai Hang’s IM Teppanyaki & Wine nabbed a one star for its barside grill thrills; the lobster and wagyu wow. Ginza import Sushi Tokami, in Harbour City, also gained a one star for its sensational sushi, showcasing top tuna.
Among the new-ish restos repped on this year’s list are one-star anointed Beefbar, which serves, well, beef… particularly rare cuts of prime meat, sourced from the world’s top producers. A polished marble and leather interior backdrops beef dishes served either from the ‘bar’, or according to a globally inspired menu.
Decked out like a private members’ club, albeit one with sky-high views, the elegant VEA joins the one-star pack for chef Vicky Cheng’s dazzling, decadent 8-course degustation, paired with Antonio Lai’s eclectic cocktails. Starry, starry nights!
