10 Years of Oenophile Festivities

September 02, 2014
Windy City Wine Festival

Grant Park’s sprawling expanse is ordinarily home to some of Chicago’s more tranquil scenes, from the art-filled space of Millennium Park to the grounds of the Art Institute of Chicago. But from September 4 to 6, the surrounds of the iconic Buckingham Fountain will be abuzz with oenophile activity once again as the Windy City Wine Festival returns for its 10th consecutive year.

More than 12,000 wine aficionados will attend the event, where a selection of over 300 globally-sourced varieties can be sampled, including French Cotes de Provence-grown Chateau de Saint Martin, sustainably-vinified Rutherford Ranch from Napa Valley, a curated range by leading importer Terlato Wines, plus an assortment of Spanish labels from the Rioja region. In honour of the late celebrity chef Charlie Trotter, this year’s festival will include a special opening ceremony where Trotter-inspired dishes are prepared by his restaurant alumni and paired with artisanal pours. Besides wine, the weekend will be filled with live entertainment on the BlueCross BlueShield Entertainment Stage, and when hunger strikes, look out for Mexican bites from popular cucina Blue Agave, grilled delights by Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, and decadent spirits-infused cupcakes from local bakery Guilty Pleasurez. Then it’s back to wine-tasting – hear, hear!

On September 4-6.
