Chicago’s Vintage Shopping Mecca

April 17, 2017
Vintage Garage

Love a good rummage? Whether you’re mad for old-school fashion, retro homewares, heritage military kit or nostalgic travel memorabilia, Uptown’s flea market Vintage Garage is the place for you...

Stashing collectibles, curiosities, mint-condition vinyl and more, this monthly market (every third Sunday, from April until October) sports a buzzy atmosphere, with around 100 passionate pro and amateur vendors from across the Midwest spread over three levels and ramps of a covered parking lot. You’ll discover clothing, jewellery, vintage furniture and decor from the 1940s to 1980s, Art Deco originals, lighting, industrial objects, music and art. Most items are at least 25 years old, but you’ll find serious antiques too, plus the odd new or handmade piece in keeping with the vibe.

Each gathering is based around a different theme, such as ‘Midcentury Modern’ on 23 Apr, bound to attract eagle-eyed design fans (Record Ramp, Rockabilly Clothing, and Vintage Wedding are future inspirations). It’s also the season opener and biggest show of the year (held unusually on the fourth Sunday of April, due to Easter). Live vintage rock ‘n’ roll band Rosie & The Rivets will supply the tunes, playing classics from the 50s and 60s. Dress up, shop, and dance till you drop…
