Old Plank Road

Though the Windy City has more than its share of contemporary architecture and modern design-loving denizens, there’s one under the radar Logan Square antiques and furniture dealer that’s been injecting a decidedly vintage and European feel to interiors across the city. Since 1992, Old Plank Road has been sourcing, importing and restoring stunning pieces from across the pond, and since their 2011 move to commodious new premises (no less than 31,000 sq ft), novice renovators, professionals designers and collectors alike have been reveling in the vast, show-stopping cache.

There’s everything from antique French walnut chests, Victorian-era bed frames, 1940s leather club chairs, and crystal chandeliers of all shapes and sizes, to C.18th LXIII armoires, Rococo gilt-framed mirrors, Moroccan silk rugs and Turkish kilims. Walls looking bare? Fret not, there are retro 50-60s automotive posters of Chryslers, Studebakers and Chevrolets galore, not to mention actual vintage mopeds and bicycles including a classic 1971 Schwinn Sienna Brown good to ride or display – or both! If the one-off piece of your dreams proves elusive, OPR also does a nice line in classic repro furniture and decorative pieces, or they can even custom make to your very own specs. Vintage chic!
