Fabled Fash Stash

April 20, 2015
In the world of fashion the biggest designers are often known by a single moniker – Chanel, Céline, Givenchy, to name a few – so it’s really saying something when the owner of a Midwest boutique enjoys the same privilege. Ikram, as she is simply known, is an industry luminary. Since opening her first little outlet on Rush Street, Ikram Goldman has built a rep as the first lady of Chicago’s fashion scene, dressing executives and society figures (including actual First Lady Michelle Obama) in hand-picked, often exclusive pieces from runways across the Big Four fashion capitals, as well as under-the-radar local studios.

Nowadays, her highly coveted stash lives in a pillar box-red three-storey department store on the Magnificent Mile, filled with all of Ikram’s favourites from Thakoon to Japanese label If Six Was Nine and Chi-town talent Creatures of the Wind. Jewellery, totes and toe candy are also represented, but don’t expect to leave in anything Ikram doesn’t approve of – the grand dame of designer will flatly refuse to sell an item she feels doesn’t flatter the customer. However fret not, the perfect garment, be it a gala gown or a super-soft cashmere sweater, can be found for every figure. Wardrobe replenished, don’t forget to stop off at the second-floor cafe, which serves waist-preserving portions of salad, crostini and grilled salmon tacos. Afterwards, if Auntie Amex is still raring for more action, take her for a turn around the glam in-house art gallery.
