Texas-Style Smoked Barbeque

April 24, 2014
Green Street Smoked Meats

The prolific restaurateur Brendan Sodikoff (Gilt Bar, Au Cheval) has added yet another restaurant to his repertoire, and this latest culinary venture comes in the form of Texas-style barbeque smokehouse Green Street Smoked Meats, tucked away in the same back alley that houses RM Champagne Salon. Follow your nose into the graffiti muralled alleyway, look for the second unmarked door on the left, and step inside. What awaits is an atmospheric ode to the smokey BBQ house of the South – there’s a beamed ceiling, weathered brick walls, stools at a wooden bar and communal bench seats, all with an added sultriness thanks to haphazardly strewn string lights casting a warm glow.

Join the cafeteria-style queue at the counter and order your choice of marbled meats including beef ribs, brisket and pork belly, all cooked to perfection in the gigantic oak wood-smoker, then topped with signature sauces like the coffee-infused Brown Thunder and the sweet and vinegary Leprechaun’s Tears. Add decadent sides like butternut bread and corn chip frito pie with brisket chili, jalapenos, beans and melted cheese, and grab a pint of one of the 16 draft beers on tap – we like the oak-aged amber ale by Local Option – then dig in, partner. Yeehaw!
