Curbside Culinaria

August 12, 2014
Food Truck Round Up

Summer is blooming and Chicago’s green, open spaces are awash with flora, fauna and, er... food trucks?! If you’ve already tried all the trusty favourites around Humboldt Park, here are a few new meals on wheels options to sate those lunchtime rumblings…

Bringing a taste of the old country to the streets of the Windy City is Pierogi Wagon, serving up Polish dumplings stuffed with slow-braised beef, cheesy potato or sauerkraut and mushroom. Eat unadorned or top with spicy onions, sour cream and crispy bacon. Just be sure to stake your spot in line early as local curbside-dining enthusiasts polish off these flaky fried treats faster than you can say ‘smacznego’. Meanwhile, the humble sandwich has been given a gourmet spruce at Jack’s Fork in the Road with inventive, tasty fillings like buffalo chicken with blue cheese slaw and fire sauce, and roast pork loin with crispy prosciutto and apple cabbage, plus moreish sides like sweet potato fries. Delish! Or for the health-conscious foodies, Model Chef offers a daily-changing menu of fresh comfort fare. If it’s on the chalkboard, opt for the Asian-inspired chicken lettuce wrap with crunchy noodles and a punchy mango chutney. And finally for the sweet tooths, La Boulangerie is turning out devilishly indulgent ‘crognets’ (a cronut-inspired croissant-beignet crossbreed) that pack enough calories to keep you warm all through the long Mid West winter!
