A Rocking Family Day Out

May 28, 2014
Do Division Street Festival

Though it sounds more like event for budding mathematicians, Chicago’s Do Division Street Festival is in fact a weekend-long extravaganza of independent music, retailers, restaurants and artisans staged on a 10-block expanse of West Town’s buzzy Division Street. Returning for its eighth annual outing on May 30, the festival showcases some of the America’s best up-and-coming musical talent across two stages and multiple genres, including rapper GoldLink, indie soft rockers Barber Greene, and Jersey punk rock outfit Screaming Females.

If shopping and dining are more your scene, stop by the Sidewalk Sale’s myriad participating vendors like Beadnik jewellery and Nina knitshop, or refresh your wardrobe via the Do-Fashion pop-ups and parades for men, women and kids. And that’s not all for the little ones – pony rides, face-painting, the Easel Art Studio craft tent, and an inflatable obstacle course will keep them occupied for hours. When the time comes for refuelling, there’s everything from The Boundary’s classic burgers to Mana Food Bar’s vegan bites, and best of all, all proceeds from the festival go to community organisations and local public schools. Add it up and what do you get? The answer is a fab day out for the whole fam.

From 30 May to 1 June, 2014. A $5 entry donation is recommended.
