Fancy painting the town... every colour of the rainbow? Then get ready to strut your stuff – or just soak up the vibrant fun – at the annual Chicago Pride parade.
Taking over the Uptown and Lakeview hoods on Sunday 25 June, the 48th Pride Parade is the culmination of Pride Month, celebrating gay and lesbian rights with a flurry of LGBTQ-friendly events, gigs and parties. Show your support and enjoy a high-energy day out, inspired by 2017’s theme ‘Viva la Vida – Stand Up, Stand Proud’. With pumping tunes, feisty floats, dancing a-plenty and daring outfits, it’s a chance to shake your booty, snap some sassy Insta shots, and savour the freedom-loving spirit of Chicago.
The main parade attracts around a million people to cheer on the participants, so head to the free-to-view festival early to grab your spot at the roadside. Kicking off at noon, the procession rolls down a four-mile route along the famed Halsted strip starting at W Montrose Ave and N Broadway St in Uptown and wrapping up around 3pm near the intersection of Diversey Parkway and Sheridan Rd in Lincoln Park.
For the buzziest viewing spots, boogie to the Boystown section of N Halsted St between Grace St and Belmont Ave. To see the dazzling cavalcade from a less crowded vantage point, aim for the beginning of the route along N Broadway or nearer the end. Viva!
