When it comes to guzzling great food and wine, Chicago never misses a trick, especially when Chicago Gourmet, presented by Bon Appétit mag, brings feisty new tastes to town.
The three-day Millennium Park fest kicks off with Friday night’s popular Hamburger Hop throwdown, which sees 15 talented local chefs, including Nicolas Cabrera from STK Chicago and Atticus Garant from Columbus Tap, compete for best burger at Harris Theater Rooftop (6-9pm), judged by an expert panel. Guests can sample burgers, then mingle at The Underground’s Late Night Gourmet after-party (9pm-midnight).
Over the weekend you can experience awesome cooking demos by top chefs, interactive drinks seminars, tasting pavilions and wine sampling. Discover fresh techniques from mixologists, sommeliers and chefs, then indulge at the alfresco, tent-dotted Great Lawn, where the best restaurants, vintners, and breweries offer up delectable creations. Cuisines span Indian, barbecue and Brazilian steakhouse.
This established, fun food and drink fiesta has appointed its first Host Chef – hot stuff Rick Bayless of Frontera restaurants – to curate culinary happenings, including hosting the Tao of Tacos (8-11pm Sat), spotlighting 12 leading pan-handlers whipping up Mexi tortillas and tacos, paired with tequila ‘tails. For lighter bites, Sunday morning’s Rise & Shine Gourmet sessions follow yoga classes with brunch.
2016 explores the theme of Food Is Art!, including Grand Cru wine tastings inspired by Shakespeare’s plays (2-4pm Sat & Sun). Bon appétit!
