Smart Brit Tailoring

May 01, 2014

Let’s face it – no one does smartly-tailored, prep-chic quite like the Brits, and although US big guns from Mr. Lauren to Tommy H. and Brooks Brothers all try to capture the crisp, collegiate look and market, it turns out Chicago gents are all about their across-the-pond counterparts, like iconic English menswear brand Charles Tyrwhitt. Burgeoning demand in the US has seen domestic sales skyrocket for the brand – surpassing even the numbers in its homeland – so the time for a brick-and-mortar Windy City home was deemed well and truly nigh, and a new flagship opened in the Loop in February.

Marking the fifth American outpost for the label, the 2,300 sq ft space is stocked with razor-sharp cotton shirts crafted in classic, slim and extra slim cuts, with a startling array of fabric prints like tartan, washed denim, forest green twill and raspberry gingham. In addition to the signature shirts are a slew of stylish accessories that in-the-know dandies can lay hands on, with the offering spanning ties and cufflinks, cashmere jumpers, raincoats, calf-leather shoes and wool suiting. And if you need even more incentive to beeline directly to South LaSalle, how about nifty add-ons like personalised monogramming and excellent value shirt specials? Sounds like a smart deal to us!
