Think Pink

October 05, 2015
The Art of Pink at The Peninsula Chicago
October’s arrival heralds a number of things; the onset of autumn, Halloween and – most importantly – Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Which, of course, is why The Peninsula Chicago’s facade blushes in artful cerise hues each evening throughout the tenth month.

This year also marks the fifth anniversary of the annual Peninsula in Pink campaign, during which all of the Peninsula hotels worldwide work to raise consciousness and funds for breast cancer charities. 2015’s effort is entitled ‘The Art of Pink’ and takes a decidedly creative stance.

Chi-town’s offering centres on an impressive site-specific installation, Alchemy, consisting of 24 totem poles imagined by renowned Korean artist Choi Jeong Hwa and curated by the Hong Kong-based Pearl Lam Galleries. Crafted from found materials – including LED lights, plastic bowls and steel – each contempo conception is up for auction via sealed bid, with proceeds donated to local breast cancer charity, and one of the leading national organisations of its kind, Lynn Sage Cancer Research Foundation.

And it doesn’t stop there… The Lobby’s acclaimed afternoon offerings have also gone full-on fuchsia, serving a special ‘The Art of Pink Afternoon Tea’ with rose-tinted nibbles, while The Bar’s ‘Pretty in Pink’ cocktail also follows suit. Perfectly potty, but all for a good cause!
