When Art Meets Fashion...

Alice + Olivia

Though there’s a wealth of highly successful labels pounding the catwalk nowadays that opt for understated, timeless elegance with muted tones and clean lines, sometimes a touch of flamboyance is what can really make a gal stand out from the crowd – and that’s where Alice + Olivia comes into its element. Born out of a love of modern art and vintage fashion, founder Stacey Bendet has never shied away from bold motifs, colours and cuts in the brand’s 10+ years on the scene. And although already a runaway success, with no less than five boutiques in her native New York and seven in far-flung reaches from Dubai to Japan, only now has A+O finally made it to the windy shores of Chicago.

All domestic and international boutiques are designed by Bendet herself, and the 1,000 sq ft space on the Mag Mile is no exception; there’s a mural stretching across the ceiling, a mishmash of pre-loved furniture, original artworks by Bendet, and polished brassy fixtures throughout. Keep an eye out for the Autumn/Winter collection, with pieces ranging from a gothic high-neck blouse paired with a full black leather skirt, and a decadent robe-coat motiffed with baroque red velvet, to a preppy fifties-inspired mohair sweater paired with cuffed pastel pink shorts. Be bold!
