Ruling Elite

January 02, 2014

Chicago is, for the most part, a pretty laid-back, low-key town – but as in every city, there’s a hidden underbelly most are not familiar with. No, we aren’t talking about a seedy underground crime scene, but rather the opposite: the tucked away splendours of VIP life – where A-listers and executives go to unwind after a long day; where bottle service includes exclusive glow-in-the-dark (dubbed ‘nightvision’) bottles of Dom and Grey Goose; where the likes of Michael Bay and Lance Briggs turn up and slip past the velvet rope. This is the description of Parliament, a swanky club boasting the (not quite royal) treatment of each of its patrons like a member of the ruling elite.

It’s a space as opulent as the name suggests, occupying three floors including a rooftop deck (named ‘the Kensington’) with city views, and a first-floor private VIP lounge called the ‘House of Lords’, and naturally, Parliament’s menu is curated to match. The champagne list tops 25, with all the notable names – Veuve Clicquot, Perrier-Jouet, King Grande Cuveé – present and accounted for, while signature cocktails bear names like ‘The Sovereign’ with Zacapa rum, Rhum Clement, amaro, fresh lime and bitters, and ‘The Gavel’ with Ketel One, Luxardo bitter, honey syrup, fresh lemon and raspberries.
