Make It Modernique

Buckingham Interiors + Design

Julia Buckingham Edelmann is a figure renowned in the Windy City, her name synonymous with words like 'modern design' and 'interior decor', and her face the one that springs to mind when one hears the word 'Modernique'. What is Modernique? Well, it’s a term Edelmann coined to represent her signature aesthetic, and the name of her line of repurposed designs. A sort of short-form for Edelmann's passion – repurposing vintage artifacts and antiques for the modern day abode – Modernique encompasses homeware from furniture to accessories, from lighting to decor.

Having regularly been a subject of press for her discerning eye and style (homes she’s worked on have been featured in magazines from Elle Décor to Rue), today Edelmann is the talk of the town thanks to her newly expanded West Town showroom, which opened September in a 2,800 sq ft space that’s envy-inducing the minute you step in. Part showroom, gallery, and stage, Buckingham I+D is a physical manifestation of Edelmann’s design firm, and the collection on display here revolves at her whimsy… but on any given day, the space is filled with an eclectic mix of her signature old-meets-new goods. Nesting nirvana!
