Tangy Tongue Treats

Bites Asian Tapas

As Jack Frost nips and bone-chilling winter enfolds the Windy City, there’s never been a better time to battle the elements and seek out Lakeview’s newbie-on-the-block, hotspot Bites Asian Tapas. As if the warm, farmhouse-rustic woods, industrial stools and comfy banquettes weren’t enough, there’s a blazing fireplace, and for the very lucky who book early enough, a fireside table complete with plush armchairs, perfect for a romantic winter treat. Of course, with Thai chef Marita Tantivirasut behind the stoves you can expect great Siamese treats, but add into the mix Korean, Japanese, Indian and Mexican influences, and you’ve got a real winter winner.

Start off your small plate picnic with the deliciously charry grilled rib-eye Crying Amigo Tacos with their rich, tangy cilantro and lime sauce, and the sweet and sour kimchi egg rolls packed with shrimp, scallions, cabbage, and glass noodles. For something meatless, the vegetable samosas and their zingy yoghurt dipping sauce are the perfect preamble to the creamy, curried, peanut-y butternut squash soup, and the signature Pretty In Pink rice noodles with tofu, egg and zesty, sweet signature sauce. Don’t miss the house cocktails like the Hot Geisha, a high-voltage kick of shochu, ginger syrup, lemongrass, mint and chilli, served mild medium or spicy as you like, and whatever you do, snag those armchairs!
