Shopping Melrose just got even better with the arrival of Argentine-born, London- and Paris-bred designer Vanessa Seward and her A.P.C-approved sophisti yet relaxed womenswear.
With Isabel Marant, A.P.C and Chloé for neighbours, the skylit boutique looks right at home here, with a bold blue, hedge-flanked exterior and elegant interiors by French architect Laurent Deroo. Think midnight blue walls, lashings of grainy grey marble on floors and curvy central display areas, brass racks and angular light fixtures, sleek timber and a jungle of verdant plants.
Fashionistas can browse Seward’s full range of ready-to-wear, denim and shoes, which draws on her experiences designing capsule womenswear collections for Gallic brand A.P.C and earlier career at Chanel, Tom Ford and Yves Saint Laurent. The retro, 70s-influenced Spring/Summer 2017 collection combines Paris street-chic with wearability, and balances graphic tomboy shapes with feminine appeal. Choose from super-cool belted jumpsuits, well cut culottes, curve-hugging A-line midi skirts, floaty long-sleeved frocks, sassy shorts, pattern-pretty silk blouses and raw denim boyfriend jeans. Platform sandals signal real-world appeal, putting the comfortable into glamour, while vibrant patterned circular bags are a must for the beach.
Accessories are also a wow chez Vanessa, from bags and clutches to bandanas, scarves and chunky, faceted custom jewellery. Interestingly, the store also plays and sells music curated by her hubby, French muso-producer Bertrand Burgalat – something to distract the old grump while you flex the AmEx.
