Taste of the Terroir

Terrine

 

The medieval hill towns and mystical chateaux of southwest France have enchanted many a golden-ager with their resplendent charms. But it’s not just the beauty of the surroundings that beguiles – the tastes of the terroir boast their own particular pizazz. From foie gras to confit de canard, and truffles to big-hearted Bordeaux, the region delivers hefty tongue tingles too. Well, now lucky Angelenos can happen upon all of these flavours (without ever leaving the glossy modernity of Beverly Grove) at Kris Morningstar’s new chefs’ fave, Terrine.

 

Between exposed brick walls or beneath the boughs on the tree-shaded patio, Morningstar brings the best of rustic French to the city, tarting it up with a dash of Cali flair. The flesh-tastic menu is enough to arouse the carnal in any carnivore, but might leave vegetarians wanting – you have been warned.

 

Fete the lifted state-ban on foie gras with the generous terrine, sample the toasted pig’s ear salad, and gorge on the garbure (swill in a drop or two of red wine and drink from the bowl to do the dregs their due – delish!). Add to that some rather stiff cocktail concoctions from maestro Ryan Wainwright and pours selected by super som Francois Renaud, and you’ll soon see why your neighbouring tables are filled with some of LA’s most respected restaurant folk. Pâté on!
