Where To Eat During Restaurant Week

February 03, 2018
Gourmet Extravaganza

If you’ve just missed out on the smorgasbord of culinary delights offered by dineLA, fret not, the epic gourmet extravaganza will march back into town next year. In the meantime, here’s a handpicked selection of restaurants guaranteed to tick style for dollar all the year round.

First up is hip ship E.P & L.P,  an Asian dining house and rooftop bar. Lively neon-lit, neo-industrial E.P. (the restaurant) caters for solo diners and larger parties alike with its Fijian-Vietnamese-Chinese influenced menu. Afterwards nip upstairs to L.P., the funky wooden-decked rooftop bar repping South Asian street food and cocktails with a side of stellar views.

For a taste of the Mediterranean beeline to perennial favourite Fig & Olive. The pretty Tuscan-style outpost of the New York original serves simple southern European fare, served with an abundance of olives and figs. Pull up a pew at the 50-ft-long tasting bar, get social at the communal table or, if weather permits, perch alfresco on the patio.

Meat free is seriously à la mode in LA and Mexican Gracias Madre, is the go-to for zinging plant-based fare in a bright and airy setting. Standouts include potato-masa cakes, while the barbecue jackfruit tacos will soon have you forgetting your carnivorous streak. Highly quaffable Margaritas helps too of course...

Celebrity institution Mr Chow, helmed by award-winning Chef Yi Jia Qian, is always a dining highlight. Admittedly the decor is a tad dated, but for reliable Beijing-style cuisine and starry atmos, it’s hands down, best in town. Sleeves up and get stuck into the likes of water dumplings and green prawns, or spicy pork with chilli, best eaten family style.

For an alfresco dining experience that hits all the right tasting notes, there’s The Peninsula’s ultra-chic, foliage bedecked Rooftop Garden. This fashionable eatery has gained a stellar rep for its fresh Cali cuisine with the likes of roast beet salad with baby arugula and strawberry, vermillion snapper fish tacos or grilled hanger steak with chimichurri. Divine!
