You’re already acquainted with Dasher, Dancer, Prancer and Vixen, not to mention the most famous reindeer of all, Rudolph, but can you recall the last time you actually saw them? No? Neither can we, which is why we suggest you pay a visit to their less bashful buddies, who have jingle-bell rocked up to the Los Angeles Zoo & Botanical Gardens for the return of the Reindeer Romp.
Offering the only opportunity to see live Christmas caribous in Southern California, the Reindeer Village plays host to Noel, Belle, Velvet and Jingle (although don’t bother trying to visit for the main event as they’ll be otherwise engaged).
A flurry of other activities keeps the festive spirit well and truly alive, with weekend entertainment for all the family. Little helpers are invited to take part in holiday craft workshops or ogle the incredible ice-carving demonstrations. There are also puppet shows from the Swazzle Holiday Extravaganza, performances by Tinseltown’s popular retro musical troupe Satin Dollz, docent-led talks and the chance to see some of the more intelligent animals unwrapping gifts all of their own.
And, of course, it wouldn’t be the season to be jolly without a visit from a certain bearded gentleman, who, despite his busy schedule, will be gracing the spellbinding Santa Village with his presence. Winter wonderful!
Until 3 Jan, 2016.
