Celebrating Photography in Los Angeles - USA's Second Biggest Photography Festival

Month of Photography Los Angeles

LA's celebrated Month of Photography, which runs throughout April, includes a thought-provoking repertoire of exhibitions, talks, workshops and installations. Here’s a guide on what to see, where to go and what to snap during the USA’s second biggest photography fest.

Instagram might be fuelling our passion for stylish snaps, but society’s long-standing love affair with photography stretches into real life too – get snap happy at one of the event’s superb exhibitions. From established shutterbugs to upcoming talents; photojournalism to fine art, there are plenty to choose from. We’re particularly excited about An Idyllic Place, which is an exhibition, book release party and talk all in one, featuring works by Naomi Harris, Pamela Littky and Emily Shur.

Alongside the amazing array of eye candy, the festival hosts a series of discussions between the industry’s brightest minds. Not sure where to start? Powerful and moving, Stronger Shines the Light Inside is a good bet; acclaimed LA photographer Angie Smith will talk about her ongoing project, which documents refugees who’ve moved to Idaho, Salt Lake City and Los Angeles, charting US identity and resettlement. Advance booking is advised.

For a larger-than-life example of photography at its finest, don’t miss the festival’s #SVLA1 Screen in Downtown LA. A huge projection will show an hourly rotating collection of works, following a different theme each week, thus showcasing the diversity of the photographic medium.
