Art, Now | PenCities Beverly Hills
Art shows are the new parties, don’t you know? From London to Miami, Hong Kong, Basel and LA, the in-crowd is making a beeline for these creative gatherings, cutting a slice of culture with a little see-and-be-seen socialising on the side.
LA Art Show at the Convention Center is one of the art scene’s hot spots, the longest running venue for contemporary, modern and classic art in the country, featuring top galleries and programming, such as lectures, tours, special exhibits, performances and exclusive after-parties. The opening night premiere party on 11 January is a coveted ticket, offering the chance to preview the works on show, and hobnob with curators, collectors, gallerists and the beautiful people.
Running for five days in January, the 2017 edition of the West Coast’s most comprehensive art experience is one of the largest, with 150,000 sq feet of exhibition space and around 70,000 attendees expected. Featured galleries hail from around the world, including Seoul, Tokyo, Beijing, Prague and Berlin, as well as a strong local showing from California, NY and Miami. Curated areas include Works on Paper, Project Space, Roots and Jewels, as well as cheeky, alternative showcase Littletopia. A range of installations should also animate Instagram.
While you’re in town, pop to new neighbour The Broad museum, showing post-war and contempo art in a futuristic building by starchitects Diller Scofidio + Renfro. Art rules!
Until 15 Jan, 2017.
