Want to melt your honey’s heart this Valentine’s day? Well, LA-based lovers looking to treat their sweet need venture no further than the recently unveiled Melrose Place outpost of long-running haute cocoa label Compartés Chocolatier. Owned by veritable sugar daddy Jonathan Grahm, the organic, artisan brand has been serving up Wonka-worthy bars and assortments via their Brentwood store for over 65 years, and has now made its first move westward with a calorific counter at the back of hip WeHo java joint, Alfred Coffee.
The bitty space itself looks rather enticingly like a box of chocolates with its monochrome subway tiles, neat rows of colourful creations against matte black walls, and a display cabinet choc full of pretty dipped fruits and offbeat bonbons filled with raspberry and pink pepper, spicy chipotle, honey-peanut butter, and caramel brûlée. Or if your beloved is already sweet enough, why not plump for bitter options including Guinness, Macallan single-malt, and red wine, as well as seriously dark blocks like the ginger and lemongrass Thailand, the pineapple-coconut Hawaii, and the coffee with cacao nibs Kenya. Heck, while you’re at it, why not top it off with an arty heart-shaped box?!
