Unplug Meditation

If the daily grind of bustling city life has left you feeling more zonked than zen, look no further than this tranquil guided meditation den, founded by Glamour fashion editor turned spiritual entrepreneur Suze Yalof Schwartz. Eschewing incense puffs and pretzel-like contortions in favour of a no-frills, totally secular ‘dry bar of meditation’ approach, the studio delivers 32 concise, 30 to 45 minute drop-in sessions per week, from classics like breath awareness and mantra chants to more inventive spin-offs, such as the body scan meditation (gradual head-to-toe relaxation); moving meditation (spirit-lifting arm movements); candle gazing; and third eye meditation. They even have a special lineup for kids!

Simply settle into a doughy floor chair in the minimalist, heliotrope-tinted space and follow one of the expert instructors (among them Steve Ross, former monk and owner of Maha Yoga, and clinical psychologist Stefanie Goldstein) until every scintilla of tension retreats. Or, if retail therapy is more your thing, rediscover the joie de vivre by lingering at the in-house boutique replete with Betsey Carter meditation stones, logo tees and Motto journals. Just make sure not to pencil in the eating meditation in your lunch hour in expectation of a three course meal, since you’ll be chewing on just a raisin throughout the entire affair (but they do promise a life-altering experience!).
