This Phoenix is rising from the ashes of its bulldozed former quarters. After being closed at the hands of the city council, then re-opened and eventually demolished to make way for an expanding Metro line, the hip Beverly Hills bolthole has finally found a beautiful new home on West Third Street. With a chicer look and an exciting new addition of a patio for screenings and games out the back, in the end it’s the top selection of whiskies, craft draughts and signature steak-frites that steals the show.
The new digs are inside a former carpet and tile business that, like all Beverly babes of a certain age, has been nip-tucked head to toe by Phoenix owner Adolfo Suaya and his archi accomplice Christoph Kapeller. A marble slab bar is the centrepiece, with dark wood communal benches, golden fixings, dim lighting and a mosaic tiled floor completing the swanky fit out.
Those who lamented the statement-making single item menu at the former Phoenix will be pleased to learn that they have expanded their offerings to include other brasserie fare, like chicken paillard and a house salad, as well as that famed steak n’ fries.
For gargling, you can raise a glass to Ryan Sweeney and the Goat Group for curating a top notch roll call of malts and other spirits, craft beer, wine and ‘tails. Head there on a weeknight between 5pm and 7pm for the happiest of hours. Cheers, dears!Phoenix LA / 8480 W 3rd St / Beverly Grove / +1 323 655 5030 / 5pm-2am daily / thephoenixla.com
