Twin Turnaround

May 26, 2014
The Row

There’s no denying that Mark-Kate and Ashley Olsen have come a long way since their early days as tweeny-boppers in pigtails and dungarees. In what was quite an astounding turnaround, the twins have established themselves as some of the fashion scene’s most eyeballed celebrity icons, even pipping top spot on Vogue’s best-dressed sisters list. So it was only a matter of time before the duo set up their own high-end clothing label, and that came in the form of The Row in 2006, which fast became a popular fixture in New York’s Barney’s. Now the brand has chosen the West Coast for its first ever standalone flagship, an impressive 3,600-sq-ft space on Melrose Place.

The expanse of polished floors, full-length windows and a courtyard centred around a dreamy pool is home to The Row’s full range of ready-to-wear female fashion, handbags and eyewear, all in their signature neutral hues and high quality fabrics. Originally founded with the intent to create ‘the perfect T-shirt’, the attention to fit and function hasn’t been lost in recent collections either, including expertly tailored blazers, sweep-cut cloaks, slouchy knits and A-line dresses. As part of The Row’s mission to support local fashion manufacturers, most of their clothes are made in the US, and patrons are promised a paparazzi-free shopping experience – important given this strip of Melrose is a sanctuary for style-conscious celebs!
